Haiwan Ripe Square – Menghai Spring-Leaf Shou Puerh

This compact 100 gram ripe puerh square is made with early spring tea from Menghai, using a tender one-bud, one-leaf pluck. The higher proportion of young leaf and golden tips gives the tea a refined appearance, plenty of aroma, and a lively, satisfying character in the cup.

Produced by Haiwan Tea Factory, which is known for careful leaf selection, blending, and fermentation, all essential qualities in creating a smooth and well-balanced ripe, or shou, puerh.

Dark, mellow, and full of depth, this square is enjoyable now and can also be stored to develop further over time. Its smaller size makes it an approachable choice for anyone looking to explore aged-style puerh without committing to a larger cake.

Flavor Profile

Smooth, dark, and aromatic with earthy depth, gentle complexity, and a clean, satisfying finish.

Ingredients

2010 Ripe (Shou) Chinese Puerh Tea.

Brewing Instructions

Carefully loosen a small amount of tea from the edge of the square using a puerh pick or other suitable tea tool. Use about 5 to 7 grams of tea for an 8 to 12 ounce cup or small teapot.

Rinse the leaves briefly with hot water, then discard the rinse. Steep with water just off the boil for 2 to 4 minutes, adjusting to taste. This tea can be steeped multiple times, with each infusion bringing out more depth and smoothness.

For a gongfu-style session, use about 5 grams of tea in a small gaiwan or teapot and begin with short infusions of 10 to 20 seconds, increasing the steep time as you go.

Serving Guidance

Excellent after a meal, during cool weather, or whenever you want a dark, grounding cup. Enjoy it plain to appreciate its earthy depth, or try a longer steep for a richer, fuller-bodied brew.
