New 2024 Crop of Eiju Sencha

We’re excited to offer the return of Eiju Sencha, now back in stock after four years! This 2024 crop is a testament to the artistry of small-batch, hand-crafted tea production. As with all specialty teas, the flavor profile of Eiju Sencha varies from year to year, reflecting the unique conditions of each growing season. This year's harvest presents a fresh, vibrant take on this beloved tea.

Origin & Production
Eiju Sencha is crafted by the Konishi family, tea artisans from Kawanehon in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, who have been producing small-batch teas for generations. This well-balanced blend is composed of four tea varietals, including the popular Yabukita alongside Okuhikari, Shizuka 7132, and other traditional Japanese cultivars. Only the young shoots of the first flush, known as 'Mirume,' are hand-plucked to create this tea, ensuring the highest quality.

Tasting Notes
The 2024 batch of Eiju Sencha offers a delightful, evolving experience. Expect the flavors to arc gracefully from a rich, buttery umami to a fresh, vegetal asparagus note. Hints of apricot sweetness emerge, followed by a delicate floral bouquet with a soft astringency. This tea is designed to be savored, with each cup revealing new layers of complexity.

Perfect Pairings & Enjoyment
Eiju Sencha is a versatile green tea that pairs well with light, savory dishes or can be enjoyed on its own as a refreshing and restorative cup. Whether you're familiar with this tea or trying it for the first time, this year’s harvest will surely bring a sense of joy and tranquility. The name Eiju, translating to "forever happy," speaks to the uplifting and comforting experience this tea provides.

Ingredients

A blend of hand-plucked Japanese Green Tea.

Brewing Instructions

8 oz Cup

  1. Scoop a level teaspoon of tea into infuser.
  2. Heat water to 175° F.
  3. Pour 8 oz. of water over tea leaves.
  4. Steep tea for 2-3 minutes (depending on taste preference).
  5. Remove infuser and enjoy tea. Can be steeped multiple times.

Potful

Simply add to your infuser one level teaspoon of leaf per 8 oz. of water and place it in your pot, then add the appropriate amount of 175° F water and let it steep for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the infuser and enjoy. Can be steeped multiple times.

Brewing Iced Tea

As with some of our other extremely fine loose-leaf teas, we do not recommend drinking Eiju over ice. However, it is excellent when cold-brewed overnight in the refrigerator!
