Tea Flavor Wheel: A New Way to Taste Tea

A New Way to Taste Tea

In honor of TeaFest PDX, we created a newly imagined Tea Flavor Wheel.

Flavor wheels have long been used in the world of sensory tasting. You’ll find them for coffee, wine, beer, chocolate, and all sorts of other foods and beverages people love to thoughtfully nerd out on. A tea flavor wheel is a guide that helps you identify the flavors and aromas you notice in a cup of tea.

Over the years, we’ve used many different versions. The first tea wheel we ever saw was created by Seattle-based Tea House Kuan Yin in 2009. Since then, tea experts, educators, and businesses around the world have created their own interpretations.

For our version, we wanted something compact, approachable, and easy to use. Something you could hold in one hand while holding a cup of tea in the other.

Our new tasting wheel includes common tea flavor and aroma notes, along with other important tasting elements like body, astringency, bitterness, and finish. It was designed to be simple enough for everyday tea drinkers, but useful enough for deeper tasting practice.

You can download a free copy from our website, and we’ll also be including printed copies with orders while supplies last.
