Why do we package our tea in bags instead of tins?

It comes down to freshness, quality, and keeping tea more affordable.

Our resealable bags help protect tea from two of its biggest enemies: air and light. Air can oxidize tea over time, changing its flavor and aroma. With a flexible bag, you can gently press out extra air before sealing it again, helping your tea stay fresher for longer. The bag also keeps light off the leaves, which helps protect the tea from degrading over time.

Bags are less expensive and easier to ship than tins, which helps us keep costs down for our customers. Less packaging cost means more of what you’re paying for goes toward the tea itself.

That said, we know tins can be really convenient, especially if you like a tidy tea cabinet. If you prefer to transfer your tea into a tin, we recommend choosing an opaque one with an internal plastic cap that can be pushed down toward the tea. That helps reduce the amount of air the leaves are exposed to between cups.
