Staff Favorites: Bruce & Ceylon

Jun 27th 2018

A commonly asked question here at the shop is “What tea is your favorite?” But that question can be hard to answer as it seems to change with the weather, my mood, or even what someone ate for breakfast. In this new series of blog posts we have asked our staff here at the Jasmine Pearl that question. Over the next few months we’ll post their answers here. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new tea to try!

This month we asked Bruce what his pick is. Bruce is our Speciality Projects Manager and also works hard on sourcing and importation of teas. Bruce's pick this month is Ceylon!

Why do you like it?

B: I like black tea a lot, but Ceylon specifically for it's natural citrus notes.

How do you brew it?
B: I usually use a heaping Tbs and steep it for 5 minutes to make it really strong.

What does it remind you of?
B: It reminds me of my Mother and Grandmother's tea when I was little.

Is this tea particular to this season?
B: It's not, but in the summer I drink it iced, and in the winter hot with some half&half and sweetener.

How does it make you feel?
B: It makes me feel like a child again with my Mom and Grandmother, it's this happy nostalgic feeling.

Does this tea help you do something?
B: It's the first thing I drink when I get here so it helps me get through my work day.

This orthodox black tea from Sri Lanka has a wide appeal. The single estate selection is mildly astringent and pleasantly fruity with good body. An ideal breakfast tea that can be enjoyed with or without milk and is also wonderful iced. Ceylon is also one our teas that is certified organically grown!
